Default Replacing Front brake switch

Apologize if this is a repost but can’t seem to find any info on this.

I’m trying to replace my front brake switch inside the master cylinder on my 81 XLH. From my understanding its supposed to unscrew when I try to unscrew it just spins with the metal cylinder that’s it is incased in. Tried holding it with needle nose pliers but that doesn’t work.

Factory service manual I have states to disconnect wires and discard switch. Replace switch as a unit. Obviously this is easy but I’m having a hard time. I don’t want to break the metal cylinder if I need it.

My next step would be disconnect the brake line and mirror and work on it on my bench.

Everything is already disconnected and apart. I have to rebuild the master cylinder.

The switch then should be easy to see what the hang up is on your end . With good lighting and a keen eye.

You are right on track . It should just unscrew.
