Default Replacing 1st gear with Andrews

Hi Everyone,

This is my first post on here in a long time. I'm in the middle of resurrecting my Sporty this year since I haven't been able to ride much in the last few years. The bike had some major issues that I didn't have the finances or time to deal with, that and having 2 small children (and 3 teenagers) meant it just sat.

Anyhoo, my 2001 XL1200C has been having the dreaded 1st gear popping out/ worn dogs problem for a long time, and I was just dealing with it. I'm finally in the process of fixing this along with a Barnett extra plate clutch. Anybody have experience with installing the Andrews close ratio 1st gear (P/N 299110) on an early 2000's 1200? I was planning on changing out the 1st and third on the countershaft, but then I found the close ratio first gears and I have heard that just replacing these has solved the problem for some. When I search ebay or amazon, it says that it will not fit my model,I talked to my indy and they said that andrews doesn't sell first and third on the countershaft, but they could get the HD in about 3 weeks and 400 bucks. I called Andrews and they told me that I needed P/N 299110 (1st main and counter), 299102 (2nd main 3rd counter), and 299103 (3rd main 2nd counter). Do I really need to replace all of these? And, once again, looking on amazon or ebay says that they won't fit. I know one of you has dealt with this. It seems like the andrews would be the way to go over stock since you can ride out first gear more, but the other ones are just stock. Even replacing the 3rd on the counter, why do I need to buy the other ones?
