I run 883 primary gearing with a 1200 trans pulley. Doing 60mph at 3k rpm in 5th. Rev limiter set at 7.5k rpm.

That's too short for my taste. 1200 gearing with the 28 tooth 883 final shortens it just a little.
Raises the rpm like 230 at any given speed.
65mph in 5th is like 3300. Puts in just coming into the power curve. Bet the mpg increases.

29/55 and no issues running 2.5k@60mph.
it will do 45mph with steady throttle but 50 is better.
not stock engine.

Changing from a 29 to a 28 tooth will increase revs ~3.5%. So if you're turning just over 3,000 rpm at 65 mph with a 29 (mine does with an 80" circumference rear tire) you'll be turning just over 3,100 with a 28. Effectively the change feels like twice what the simple math says as you gain torque multiplication and rpm.

I was considering putting a 30 on mine.

To the OP, just run in 4th, I don't use 5th until 65 or 70.
