The sound appears to originate from the right side of the bike, though it could just be me. My hearing ain’t what it used to be after years in a rock-n-roll band. I hear it under steady throttle and when accelerating, but not when throttling down.

I thought it might be the primary chain clattering, and the sound maybe migrating over to my good ear, however after adjusting the slack (it was only lose by a smidge) and changing the primary oil, the sound persists.

My old Shadow made a similar sound, though that one sounded more like small bamboo sticks clapping together rather than a rain stick. The original owner of the Shadow told me he didn’t know what it was, but that it was always there. Didn’t seem to indicate a problem whatsoever.

Does anyone know what that phantom rain stick sound is coming from my '05' XL1200C? Perhaps merely the sound of all the combined moving parts of the engine? Would love to hear your thoughts.

UPDATE: Bought a belt tension gauge. Tension good. Installed new tires front & rear. Needed them anyway. No difference.

Got it narrowed down now to engine or engine related noise IE., vibration under throttle, after running the speed up to 45 and killing the motor. Quiet as a church mouse. So, not the belt, not the tires, not the gremlins that little bell scoops up for me as I drive.

You may be right, those of you who suggested it. Perhaps it's merely one of the sounds a Sporty makes. Hoping.

Now I have another problem. Starting new thread. Lost rear brake pressure trying to flush & bleed lines.
