Default Clutch Throw???

Im needing to get a new clutch cable (shorter than stock) for my 95 sporty. Ive noticed a lot of companies list a "throw" length. Can somebody explain this to me? Also when measuring for a cable, do I measure total length or the length of the cable housing? Thanks

usually they refer to the travel, which is the length of cable that sticks out one end with the other end tight. the other variable is the housing length and adjuster location. usually measured from the bottom of the cable. with adjuster collapsed unless specified otherwise.

a45junkie's right about the 'throw length' being the length of cable that sticks out one end with the other end tight.

For a Sportster year and model specific cable, the length is measured by the cable sleeve. As they are all made to year and model specifics as far as which handlebars, etc... come on the bike.
The 'throw length or travel length' doesn't come into the measurement.

I think what your calling "throw" length is actually the "travel". This was taken from the Magnum Shielding web site. Shows how to determine the measurements:
