Cool new clutch cable?

what is a sure fire way to find out my clutch cable is tight enuf before starting the bike? just replaced due to 12" apes.. i want to know its loose enuf before dropping it into gear.. just loosen all the way and go from there? any ideas? this forum has helped with so many things.. its on and im shutting down for tonight and will be adjusting a little tomorrow.

its a 2007, should i have any problems changing throttle cables?
-air cover off and pretty much just tearing into it from then.. any info on that would be greatly apreiciated..
i have a strong automotive background but bikes are a little diffrent so im just kinda goin with the flow and searchin this site as much as possible. thanks everyone for all the info.

wen i hear music like this, it makes me wanna peel out!

Does it feel snappy?
If you have a lift-put it up on that...secure it!
Start bike, pull clutch, shift into 1st...with clutch pulled...how much resistance is on the rear tire...
Once you get it close...it comes to personal preference-do you like a tight clutch or once with a little slip-

You need some free play at the lever. You need about an 1/8" gap between the base of the lever and the housing.

+1

This is how the manual tells you to do it. 1/16th - 1/8th of an inch gap between ferrule and clutch lever bracket.

Adjustment

1. Slide rubber boot off cable adjuster mechanism. Loosen jam nut from cable adjuster. Turn adjuster until there is a large amount of free play at hand lever.

2. Remove clutch inspection cover from the primary cover.

3. Slide spring with attached hex lockplate from flats of adjusting screw.

4. Turn clutch adjusting screw counterclockwise until resistance is felt and screw will turn no further. Turn clutch adjusting screw clockwise 1/4 turn.

5. Intall lockplate and spring on adjusting screw flats. If lockplate hex does not match up with recess in outer ramp, slightly rotate adjusting screw clockwise until matchup is achieved.

6. Install clutch inspection cover with new )-ring. Install hex xocket screws with new O-rings. Tighten screws to 40-60 in-lbs torque.

7. Turn cable adjuster until all slack in braided-wire clutch cable is eliminated. Pull clutch cable ferrule away from clutch lever bracket to check free play. Turn cable adjuster as necessary to obtain 1/16th - 1/8th in. free play between end of cable ferrule and clutch lever bracket.

8. Tighten jam nut against cable adjuster.

9. Slide boot over cable adjuster mechanism.

As you can see it's better to have the service manual.
