Default Change to UK petrol

Hi,

a bit of information for my UK brothers & sisters.

I've just been reading an article that the government are getting the oil companies to change the petrol in the UK to E10 from E5 later this year, meaning they are putting more ethanol into it, which is bad news for old engines.

E5 is going to be branded as a 'super fuel' & they'll be charging more for it.

Hope you find this useful.

Andy.

Old engines do not have problems with ethanol. In fact they run quite well on it.

The problem with ethanol in pump gas is the water content.

Older fuel systems may have rubber parts that are not compatible with ethanol.

I filled up my bike using a container of "hurricane gas" I had stocked up last year.

I usually put stabilizer in, must have forgot this can.

Had to empty my bike tank, looked like pure water. Drained carb, pulled plugs and spun the water out the cylinders.

I poured the last gallon out the gas can and it was like pure water.

Lucky she died in my driveway right after filling!

I hope we can still get posh petrol ('Supreme', 'Advance', etc) with no Ethanol at all?

Here we have E10 and E5. The E10 should have 10% alcohol in it. The E5 should have no more that 5% in it. The companies who sell E5 here don't even put 5% in it. That's too costly it seems.
Strange enough you have to pay more for E5 up to 10 Eurocent per liter.

Ethanol costs twice as much to produce as gasoline.

Here in the states ethanol is stored in vented rail cars. No protection from water absorbtion.

You may be able to get non-ethanol fuel from a marine dealer.
