Unfortunately the "master cylinder stiffener" attach point is too close to the flats so a ring wrench won't go around the nut - at least the set I have.
But Popeye's medicine will still be part of the solution I'm sure!

That big Allen head cap screw is spinning because there is a nut on the other side. Your footrest clevis was there originally.
The exposed nut holding the muffler has to come off too. You should remove the master cylinder or at least disconnect the line.

Remove the two cap screws holding the master cylinder and pivot it and the pedal linkage up and out of the way. Then you should be able to get a short 3/4 socket in behind the muffler/pipe and get that nut off.

Just slack the exhaust clamp, remove the back fastener and give you access by pushing the muffler down. Sometime trying to save time take more time than doing the right ways. The book instruct you to undo the exhaust.

Thank you guys I eventually got that footpeg nut off with vise-grips and a 3/4 wrench - once I got the exhaust and brake rod out of the way that is. I didn't need to disconnect the brake linkage just swung it aside.
Had the same trouble with the nut that holds the shock and belt guard. That one took even longer than the footpeg nut. But I finally got it done and the new belt fit perfectly. Both sprockets are in good shape, which was nice to see.
Thanks again for the help!
