I would always run the belt guard, keeps anything the tyre picks up from landing on the belt.
While i had the wheel out for a new tyre i cleaned all the accumulated road tar from out of the pulley teeth. Surprised to find quite so much. It looked like the chrome was coming off but just well squashed tar! Came off with a small screwdriver.

wish i could take credit for the idea but it has all been gone over before me as you can see from the previous links that were posted.
by the way everything on my conversion was from ebay. the shocks, tubing, and connectors.
connectors were from a seller named fasparts.
