Default Movotor Smoked Tail Light and Turn Signal

So, last week I bought this : https://www.amazon.com/MOVOTOR-David...dp/B071F89VJY/ and today was install day.


Overall, seems .. well, cheap. Expected that. < $30 for the whole thing. Not surprised.
Instructions are laughably translated but adequate. One note: ignore the lettering that is printed on the circuit board, and DO read the directions. The board has the left wire labeled R and the right wire labeled L ... but the directions are clear which color is which, and are correct.
Light seems good. I opted to remove my turn signals and use the ones built into the unit. I will miss the tie down posts, I mean signal stalks, for cargo hauls but I will figure something out.
One note about the plastic connectors on my '08, and likely yours too: they're a pain, and the company wants $1 per wire to buy the pins to reuse the plastic connector. $2 per piece of plastic if you want new connectors.
So ... I made myself a lock pick, tinkered with the stupid fiddly @Q!#$&#, and popped the old wires out of the connector. I left the ground out, but then soldered the original violet lines onto the L/R wires for the new unit, and plugged all 3 connectors back in (2 signals, now with only 1 wire each, and the 3 wire connector that is provided with the unit.
Fit is decent but isn't perfect. I'm concerned about rain and such entering the unit. A real problem here in Florida. I'm concerned of this because the upper end rides up above the silver trim piece of the bike, and this opens the electronics to the elements. I will likely trim down that piece of plastic later to get a better fit. Ran out of time tonight.
All tested, and works great while bike is not running. Haven't ridden yet, as I just finished tonight. Seems good though.
Look is nice. I've long hated the big red brick back there. I now have extra holes in the frame rails, but that's fine. I will either fit a new luggage frame there, or add some fun gizmo / doodad. Maybe rocket launchers. No pictures yet. 5am is swift approaching, and I still have a primary oil leak to contend with. At least I have a red light on the tail again.
Oh, lastly, as I finally found the information elsewhere in the forums, I can verify that my bike [and likely others of same model block] do NOT need load balancers / resistors. The TSM is smart enough to figure it out. Plug and pray at it's finest, and it worked for once!
I may get pictures later, but so far, one customer who wasn't let down.
Not the best product, but great for the price and my needs.

You can bolt thru and use a Bungee Nut for a tie-down point...

Are your front TS bulbs still incandescent (not LED)? It seems that some folks are able to avoid the resistors and others are not... But we haven't collected all the conditions from each poster to know if it's a matter of the TSM version or particular LEDs used or combination of bulbs or what...

Update: After a week of riding this, here's the update.
So far, no problems with moisture, despite the imperfect seal. That's in Floriduh, riding to-from work, sitting outside on my 12 hr days. It gets rained on. No problems there yet.
Hyperflash ... does exist. You get about 3 or 4 flashes at normal speed, before they speed up and within 6 or 7 total flashes you have definite hyperflash. Not bad if you're just clicking them on for a lane change, shit when you're sitting at a light, if you leave them on.

IXL2Relax ... stocks up front still. Incandescents up front for turn signals and headlight. Tried a bulb replacement once with a Phillips LED but it didn't quite fit in the housing.

Headlight is about to be replaced with another cheap amazon order. Wisamic or Sunpie. Not sure yet, both around $40 USD. $50 if you want the LED lit halo around it. Hmmm...

Headlights, taillights & brake lights converted to LEDs do not need load resistors - The load resistors are not really for the TS LEDs either but ARE NEEDED because the TSM (Turn Signal Module) needs the current load to function properly...

So, you should get one 6-ohm, 50-watt resistor for each side (they often come in 2-pack or 4-pack) -- Each resistor is replacing one bulb... If in the future you replace the front incandescent bulbs with LEDs, you might need to parallel another resistor (making two in parallel) on each side to replace the load of removing the original bulbs...

Right side TS wire is BROWN - The resistor can be placed anywhere you can tap it into the BROWN wire (front, center, rear of bike - usually under seat somewhere)... One side of the resistor goes to the BROWN wire and the other side of the resistor is GROUNDED...

Left side TS wire is VIOLET - Same deal...

IXL ... I'm working on swapping everything over to LED. Once done, then I will wire in the resistors. I'd seen some conflicting information on here about my specific model's TSM working without needing a resistor / balancer / whatever you wanna call them. I mostly posted this to add raw data to the forums, so others may know.

Further Update ... no morehyper flash. It magically went away. I think the TSM took a while to adjust itself, but adjust it did.

So without load resistors nor changing any lights, it began working?

Did you replace the front TS/Running bulbs with LEDs?


Post up in another 4-6 weeks (if you ride regularly) to let us know if they are still working...

Sometimes the load is right on the border between working & not...

Daily rider. Commute / recreational / occasional cross country hauls. I did nothing else to the bike at all. Swapped the light as originally described. Left it with hyperflash. One day, it just went back to regular.

This is why we have both the learn procedure & the recommendation of the load resistors - because different folks have had different results... So, I guess I'll add the idea of waiting a week with hyperflash before installing load resistors - just in case the TSM is a 'slow learner' and it 'eventually' is able to deal with the LEDs...

Because the various available LED lights (from various vendors) create different levels of load, it's hard to get a consistent result across all those choices...
