This was floated around the Vtwin forum but I just noticed the link doesn't work anymore to the PDF.
So here it is in PNG.
Funny what you can find searching the net.

This IS NOT an official document no matter how pretty the pages look.
It says the "L" stood for high compression.
OK, if so, why didn't they later remove the "L" and make the H an "XH" or even "XCH"....?
Future models got even more compression etc, etc but they still kept the XL beginning letters.

Look over these and you can see the math doesn't work.
I'm no authority. I do think a lot though.
Only Harley knows the alphabet.
I don't think it's reason-able without official docs from them to find any conclusions from deductions.

Yeah it is.
Noteworthy surely... but how much of it is actually correct or of folk lore?
I can't answer that as I see several 'lores' just by skimming.
All I can say is take it as you see fit. But I wouldn't stake a T-bone and a brew on it.
