Default Magneto points & condenser

I know NOS Fairbanks-Morse points and condensers are out there and not too expensive. And good parts are available through Morris and Rudy Calin.

But I also see 'Eastern Parts' and 'Mid-USA' stuff on ebay, marked 'Made in USA'. This looks like old stuff sold from the 60s probably through the 90s.

Anybody ever use this other made in USA stuff?

I think that stuff came from the Dixie sellout, those are all old school parts and mostly good stuff. Not made of chinesium.
You may find the Eastern stuff is genuine, purchased raw and packaged by Eastern?
I scooped up some of that stuff for inventory as the prices are low because there was a huge volume of parts and there are multiple sellers.
As that stuff sells off the price is going to skyrocket, and eventually become unavailable.

That will leave us with the trash Ted foists.

Good thing they last forever.

Except in a case where the mag has been stored exposed to the elements like I believe the on Johnny is working on. You shouldn’t need spares for a very very long time.

You really don't know what you are getting until you install them? I have seen some that the contacts don't line up flat and some that the rubbing block is too long and you can't set the gap right, some other problems too? Not sure if they came from Dixie or somebody else? Some Dixie stuff was fine, other stuff crap? Dixie bought from multiple sources? Magneto points are best bought from a mag company like Morris! Yeah, they can be expensive? Tedd sells like three kinds of points, some are crap?

Points for magneto's are generally the same as the ones for battery/coil ignition.

Mag points see much higher voltages and the point s are tipped with platinum to reduce erosion.

As with most things you generally get what you pay for.

OK thanks guys. I thought the old "made in USA" stuff would be OK. Gonna grab it for inventory.

Iron Mike. That nasty, water filled, looking like the bottom of a dumpster mag on the '68 I was bringing back to life is done. About a hundred bucks worth of Morris Magneto parts and it is a one kick scoot.

Shh! Don’t jinx yourself!
Good to hear you got it sorted.
Get the new stuff from Morris and be done with it, for a very long time.
