I've looked at this poll for years and never voted because none of the answers seemed to fit. I finally checked the "serious health problem" one because we're both a little 'Mental' when someone asks us about our marriage.

A marriage is a bonded covenant relationship. All covenant relationships are made with three components; a ceremony, a symbol, and a sacrifice.

A healthy marriage will never be perfect because you are never going to be perfect. "Rolling Train Wreck" is a good description of my marriage. Is my marriage "healthy?" Ehhh, sometimes. Depends on how much I put into it.

The most essential missing component in today's marriages is sacrifice. I am married because I choose to sacrifice my life for the benefit of my marriage and my family. I need to do that every day. Sometimes I forget or just don't feel like it. Big mistake.

Your spouse is going to offend you and you are going to offend your spouse. Sacrifice comes in when you don't get mad when they offend you because you've already forgive them in (as in forgive them 7 times 70). Because your spouse knows they are forgiven, they are free to be who they really are and to grow. Hopefully your spouse will be forgiving you at the same time (but don't count on it!.)

"I forgive you"/ "I'm sorry. Please forgive me." Repeat as necessary. Just don't go to bed mad.

Marriage isn't for everyone. If you're not willing or able to make life long sacrificial commitments then your marriage won't work the way it's supposed to. As with all sacrifice, I don't count what I lost but what I gained. I count myself blessed.
