I agree with everything you said. BMW stands are terrible too, or at least they were.

On my trip south a few weeks ago I pulled into a rest area, put the jiffy stand down, started to walk away and I saw the bike starting to roll a bit. The parking area was flat as could be but for some reason the bike started to move. I caught it just in time before she started to roll to the point of falling over. I know I kicked it down all the way before I got off!! So now whenever I park my Sporty I put the jiffy stand down and put it in gear. When I come back to the bike and start it up I pull in the clutch.
Common sense tells me to leave it in gear. No one told me to do so.

On the level, usually in neutral but if i park on a slope it's always front end higher and then leave it in gear. Back in neutral to start to ease the starting load.

Please tell me it's not because you can't remember to put it in neutral before cranking to leave.
Because Harley stands lock when down, so the bike can't roll off the stand anyway.
My Honda Transalp on the other hand will roll off easily, so I park that in gear.
Never had a problem remembering which I'm riding,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I usually park in Neutral. If I'm on a hill, I'll leave the bike in first gear.

The only time I park mine in neutral is in my garage because I move it around to make space for other items, to just get around it or in the winter, to prevent flat spots on the tires.

Almost always, except for in the garage. Been doing that since my first bike in 1979.

I only park it in neutral in my garage. Everywhere else, level or not, I park it in first gear. I grew up in the mountains and live there now. Finding a level parking lot is the exception and not the rule around here.
I've been doing it this way for over 55 years and I've never had a motorcycle move away from its parking spot, with or without the locking kickstand. Most of my early bikes did not have electric start. I simply put them in neutral before I kick-started them.

Used to always park with it in gear, but now my new scooter got a parking brake on it that locks down tight. I am shifting it into neutral now. It is not going to roll with the parking brake set.
