I believe that this is the correct item from Amazon:
CEC Industries #1815 Bulbs, 14 V, 2.8 W, BA9s Base, T-3.25 shape (Box of 10)

Or an LED version which I may try but haven't yet so there may be unseen issues:

I may try this one in green:

For up to 82 XLS and 83 XL or XLCH it's a "mini bayonet" base, I -think- the correct number for the base is BA9S. The number specifies its diameter in millimeters so if you can measure the hole the bulb goes into that'll give you your answer (mini bayonet bulbs also come in 5mm and 7mm varieties). The following bulb numbers have BA9S bases: 53, 57, 182, 257, 363, 1445, 1893, 1895 6253, 64111 all you have to do is pick one that's a wattage you like.

After those years you're looking for HD 53439-79 which is a "miniature wedge" type bulb, more specifically a T3.25 base. Common numbers for this are 168 and 194.

Telling the difference is easy: if the bulb hole is round, you have early gauges. If the hole is a slot you have late gauges. All three bulbs (speedo, tach, hi-beam) should be the same. Regardless of which base you need, make sure you get 12 volt bulbs - if they have it at the auto parts store, it'll probably work.

By the way, LED bulbs work great in this application. You can use any color you like for the gauges, but make sure you get red for the hi-beam indicator. If you don't like the auto parts store's prices or selection, try superbrightleds.com after you know what size you need.

Edit: Both early (#71090-64) and late (#53439-79) bulbs are available from JP Cycles under those part numbers. Bonus, I'm pretty sure the picture for the latter is wrong
My answer to a similar question from another thread. See if the bulb hole is round or a slot and go from there.
