We got the Chevette as a Vauxhall Chevette in the UK, most were fit for razor blades (if there was enough metal left!) after 3 years. They were still a step up from most of the horrible British Leyland cars

1985 Ford Escape - pre-Mazda. Within two weeks of buying it new, I had a list of 17 problems with it. As time passed, the list kept growing. When I traded it in, less than a year later, the KBB value was 50% of new. I swore I would never buy another Ford.
But I now have a fantastic 2002 Ford F-150 2WD with the 4.2 liter V6 and 5-speed tranny which I bought used and after a lot of research. I I treat it like a rented mule and it begs for more. I love it. If it dies tomorrow, I got my money's worth.

I had a 1985 Audi 5000 that I got for free.
the good- price was right 5 cylinder gas engine, fuel injected, manual transmission. could cruise 100 mph all day long.
the bad- had to cheat it through smog, none of the windows worked most of the time. the AC didn't work, the heater didn't work. it was ugly as hell
the good again- sold it to the state of Ca. in a junker buy back program for $1000. then bought an 86 Honda accord for $700, drove it for 6 years and sold it to the state for another $1000, bought an 88 Jeep Comanche for $1000 in 2001. still have that truck.
These are my best worst cars hahahahaha

The Gremlin was a 6 cylinder, I don't recall if it was a belt or chain, but it failed twice (was getting it fixed for only cost of parts due to the Community College I worked for had an automotive repair school). The Chevette was a 4 and it did have a timing belt.

I knew a guy who had a Gremlin X with a 390. It was quite quick but traction was a problem.

I was lucky with cars only had one POS, a 1975 Sunbeam Rapier. It was a fastback 2 door with a big rear window & looked a lot like an early Plymouth Barracuda.I rebuilt the engine, changed a fried autobox, fitted 2 batteries, 3 head gaskets, an alternator, a window winder and tried fighting the rust monster for 3 years til it blew another head gasket & warped the alloy cylinder head & I had enough & sold it running on 3 cylinders.
