Heated Gloves: Battery Powered or 12 volt?
.
Surprised a search of thread titles didn't tun up this question, so here goes:
I want to buy heated gloves for New England cold weather riding; something good down to 25 degrees for an hour at 55 mph. Are battery powered gloves up to this challenge?
Bonus question: is the electrical system on a 2003 Spotster up to the task of powering 12v gloves? (No traffic, not at idle)
.

Yes but don't buy the 100 watts ones. 30 watts at 12 volts is enough.

I have Warm & Safe. Use them on an 2002. No problems with the bike. Keeps my hands warm and dry! I have worn out several of them in the last 20 or so years.

I’m in New England and have the Gerbing battery powered gloves. I won’t ride when it’s 25 degrees out (haha I’m old) so I can’t attest to 25 degrees @ 55 mph for an hour as I haven’t tested them riding in weather that cold and probably never will but love the gloves as I can use them in other cold weather situations so I wanted something that didn’t require plugging into the bike.

Because my hands are hard to fit I had Ken Phenix,(phenixheatedgear@gmail.com), heated gear guru and Warm n Safe dealer, install a custom set of his elements into some Cabelas snowmobile gloves I’ve had for over 30 years. They will probably double the heat output of any commercial offering. Must use with a controller and I’ve never needed more than 1/3rd power during a 4-5 hour highway run,(60+ m.p.h.), in zero to 10F temps! The arthritis prevents my riding at below zero anymore, too difficult starting the damn bike.
For other than extreme cold, and much more moderate temperatures with short runs the battery style would probably suit most riders. Not a battery fan myself.

Thanks so far for the responses. I haven't bought anything yet, but will need to soon. Mornings are getting cold here, into the 40's for the morning commutes already.

Not sure about your commute run, length, traffic......but there are a lot of options that can help you. Check the threads on site for “cold weather riding”, as there is much information that can help. Simple things like proper layering, and “wind block” options can go along way to helping your commute. I’ll check back here and follow your progress, drop me a note if you have questions.
Keep it safe, get your miles of smiles!

If you get any type of heated clothing, make sure that your arms and body stay warm. Some of the companies make heated vests which keep your body warm, BUT not the arms.
I did a diy kit years ago for the wife and made sure her arms were covered with the wiring.
This was plugged into the bike electrics with a switch to turn on /off.
Before this she'd get cold on her arms as the bike had a full fairing {BMW }
The wind wound go around the fairing, passed me and hit her arms.
