Upgraded my rear turns with the Custom Dynamics plug n play LED cluster things. Saw a picture taken of me from behind at night and decided that if the brightest thing a car behind me sees is my license plate, I have a problem. A buddy of mine from work saw the upgrades and decided he needed some too, because my little sportster seems brighter than his goldwing and rocket 3 from the back.

I have been tempted to add the module that turns my rear turn signals into brake / running lights. I kinda like my amber turn signals in back but avoiding being rear-ended is more important. I may make that change.

The turn signals on my '73 were removed long ago before I bought the bike. I'm going to add them back at some point, but the wiring for them appears to have been removed.

I've run with signals and without. The only time I've had problems with the cops because of signals was when I went thru a yellow ( they claimed it was red). Then continued down the road about a mile with the flashing red and blues behind, I didn't see them because I didn't have mirrors. I hand signaled to make a left into a parking lot that I was going to. I stopped. Two patrol cars blocked me in. They thought I was running from them and my hand signal was just a wave. That one cost me a "failure to comply with lawful order" and "failure to signal".

I do but wonder how many car drivers see them. I do when in my metal cage as I am a biker. So that in a sense causes me to drive differently. My ex used to complain on how many car lengths I left on the highway as well as slowing down when cars come to opposing stop signs.

That's the biggest problem - the texting/talking/coffee-drinking idiots sat where a driver used to be.

Ditto and I don't put them on as I'm making my turn but well in advance so they won't be surprised as they look up from their cell phones

I run lots of lights. I've even got a dedicated brake light now.

Normal

Braking

Taillight looks darker, but that's just the camera in the dark. That gets brighter too.

Signaling

Again, camera in the dark having troubles, but there are signals in the taillight lens as well as the big yellow bars there.

In Ontario it's compulsory to run turn signals if the model/year was originally so equipped. Cops will even hassle you for a burnt out bulb.

Here's the weird thing. When I took my road test some years back, the examiner insisted on us using hand signals plus lights if you have them.

Makes left turns interesting trying to work the clutch at the same time....

When group riding we always use hand signals as a backup, to confirm everyone in the group realizes a turn or lane change is coming up.
