Default Tank swap

Hey guys, I have an 07 883 with a pretty hefty dent in the left side of the tank. After looking for a while, I want to replace it with a bigger tank without having to do any real customization. Anyone have a good tank that is pretty much plug and play they can suggest? Oh, stock seat as well, because I know that causes fitting issues.

I'm not sure what you're asking: are you looking for suggestions for a suitable tank, or are you trying to acquire a tank?

If it's the former: if you have a 3.3 gallon tank (you don't say), then the 4.5 gallon is an easy swap, but you will need a seat that fits with that tank (or modify the seat you have).

Thanks Folkie... I'm looking for both suggestions for a tank and suggestions as to where I can acquire one. I do currently have the 3.3 gal tank... Well it was at one point, it's probably 3 gal now with the dent in it and where I'm at there's no guarantee I'll be able to find a gas station every 100 mi.
I'm mechanically inclined so swapping parts and doing the work is nothing, I'm just very novice at fabricating/modifying things. And all the threads or posts I've seen just say "modified my seat" to make the larger tank fit. How?

The problem with the seat is that the nose is too long. I believe that people undo the cover at the front, remove a bit of the padding, then staple the cover back in place. I don't know whether any of the front of the seat pan needs to be removed?

I've had pretty good luck buying used tanks off of eBay. It takes time to find a decent deal and to filter through all the dented tanks people are trying to sell (generally for too much money). I've also gotten lucky and bought from members here on the forum.

You can buy factory replacement tanks directly from Harley, prepainted if you want plug & play. For instance, this would be the PN for a 3.3 gallon in vivid black - 61023-07DH ($831.29). And, this would be the PN for a vivid black with silver stripe 4.5 gallon - 61195-07BHY ($1001.44). Ronnie's Parts Finder usually lists the PN for various colors. The primed factory ones are a bit less expensive (62213-07 4.5 gallon primed - $508.03). But, obviously you would need to have that painted.

Man, if it's just cutting some padding and stapling then I'm all over that 'mod' lol. As for the OEM replacements, they are generally just too expensive because it carries the Harley name with it. I'm not an elitist that requires only genuine parts; I just want to get rid of a big ol' dent in my current tank and get some more miles between me and the next gas station. Thanks for the insight guys!

F.W.I.W. Pull your seat off the bike, look at the bottom, you’ll see how the cover has been attached from the factory, either pointy metal prongs poking through the vinyl or pop riveted on. The seat pan should be no issue. You can lift the cover off the base with prongs or drill out the pop rivets. May not have to remove padding, just stretch the cover tighter back from the front and reattach. You can leave the seat alone, it will mash up against the back of the tank and may over time rub into the paint. Take a look and you may want to tackle it yourself, not difficult and no need to buy another seat.

So after days and days of scouring ebay I just went down to my local HD shop and picked up a primed 4.5 gal tank for a 1200. It was actually 100 bucks cheaper than what it said at Ronnie's Part Finder too!
So now I have 2 weeks to decide what color she's going to be... EVERY sportster here is standard HD black and I'm trying to not be the same. Any suggestions? Pick my paint!

I’m fond of the “Mirage Orange” on my ‘06”R”, F.W.I.W.
