You think deer are bad for motorists, try elk. Or black bear. I live in a state populated with all three. I've hunted them (rather successfully) my entire life, but I do prefer to do that with a rifle (usually a muzzle loader) rather than a motorcycle. I have had too many friends and acquaintances killed or severely injured when hitting these animals, either on a motorcycle or in a car.
Elk are tall enough that most cars' hoods will go right under their bellies, so the entirety of their body mass hits the windshield first, without the grill and hood to take part of the blow. We grow 'em big here, too - a big Roosevelt bull will easily top 1,000 pounds. It gets really, really ugly...
Our game department has taken to putting radio collars onto the herd matriarchs. They broadcast to road signs that will flash a warning light when she is within a certain distance. It's that serious of a problem.

If I get into my "Way Back" Machine, I remember AMA (mc) Magazine publishing something about deer being the number one killer of motorcyclists. circa 1986.
