Ran across this while searching for some stuff for my SX. Hmmm, the 70's.

Now H-D 2-cycles are sought after collectables and everyone carries cell phone in their pocket everywhere they go. Where'd the last forty years go so fast?

You know what makes that 250 "look" like a harley? The "squareback" taillight! (and the graphix, of course)

When I was 17, I had an SX175. Wish I still had it.

The Italian built 2 strokes were sold for about a year, 75 -76 at John Hall Honda of Blackpool. They looked nice but were expensive compared to Jap bikes & there were few takers. My local HD dealer, Bowker HD of Preston has a nicely preserved black 175SS in the diner

Back in the '80 i rode one of them... shifter on the right... first up... the other gears down...

I rode also brand new (then) Cagiva SST 125 and SXT 125 and 250...

Back in that age where nine italian guys over ten rode a converted Vespa... such bikes made a huge difference...

not so much collectible. in truth, they were dogs. i will give them this, they did do well in baja because the could take punishment. on the track here, they never won since rice was far superior. the only ones of that era i would want would be the sprint, had two.

i was referring to bikes for young people...
guys who had not yet a full licence to drive big ones...

they never could compete with japs...

It's a shame they never took a leaf out of Yamaha's book & made the water cooled 2 stroke 250 & 350 twins as a street bike like Yamaha did a few years later with the hugely popular LC250 & 350. The road racers were very successful with 4 world championships in the 70s

if i remember well...
Malanca, and other minor italian brand (HRD, Aspes etc.etc.) did produce little 2 stroke sport bikes in these years... with good response on the market...

Morini had his mythical 350 3 1/2 "treemmezzo" but this was obviously a 4 stroke whit less ponies

all of them were much pricey compared to a dirt bike...
