Default Stock 883 cold blooded

I've owned my completely stock 2006 XL883C since Autumn and have a love/hate relationship with her. During the winter in sub-freezing temps she would take a good 15 minutes to warm up and get underway without choke, which is acceptable, but still she would occasionally cough at idle and skip a beat while droning on the highway. I attributed it to her stock carb setting and the cold temps but even after drilling out the PS plug and setting it to 2.75 turns, the highest rpm attained without getting too rich, she still acted up at less than 1/4 throttle turn. Now that the temps are in the 80s she still takes about 10 minutes to warm up and act fairly normal without 'choke' but will still spit and fumble every once in awhile near idle. There aren't any intake leaks, the carb is thoroughly clean and dirt free (all jets and circuits cleaned and blown out with compressed air), I have moved to running 93 octane (IMO a ridiculous necessity given her low state of tune) to stop the dieseling on shutdown and she isn't throwing any diagnostic error codes. Am I missing something here? I can't seem to figure out why this Sporty is acting up. She starts right up with no issues whether the temps are ~10ºF or 80ºF, whether she's cold or warm... plugs and wires, wiring harness, battery and grounds test out fine, no shorts or oddities. She seems to have been well taken care of by the previous owners and only has about 10K miles now... what gives? Even my +40 year old Euro/Jap classic bikes aren't this temperamental nor have I ever had these issues with my FXR or Buell X1.

Just sounds like it need the jetting tweeking if it's still stock.
Common cures seem to be a 45/46 pilot and 1 shim under the needle or maybe a different needle.
Loads of advice on here for this.
Have a look on the Sportsterpedia carb section for more info.
I would drop your jets out and see what you have in there as a starting point.

Same issue I had with my '06 1200. The shim under the needle (stock) was the fix. I used a .018 thick washer and was golden.

Thanks for your responses guys. I've read in various places that there can be issues like mine which are remedied by using the N65 needle (which I have) but the owners also had installed aftermarket pipes. I've never test ridden a brand spanking new Sportster of this era so I wanted to verify whether or not 883s actually came straight from the factory like this and the glitches were an accepted result of having to meet stricter EPA regulations with a carbureted motor.

My 1995 883 acted just like yours for nearly 20 years.

Jet and needle with fix your problem.

You guys aren't kidding, I put the N65 needle in and the bike has been transformed. She took throttle without choke after a minute instead of having to run her for 10 minutes... response is crisp and she feels like a normal bike. I can't wait for winter to test her out in the cold.
