Very cool, I've been wanting to make one to keep on the bike myself. That one looks great. I'd have just kept the top flap longer and folded it over myself but that is probably more secure. For closing it up you could just bar tack some gutted paracord or something to the flap and just tie it once it's rolled up. Simple, effective and gives you a bit more flexibility than the snaps which will probably be rather difficult to effect. You'd probably have to disassemble it at least partially to get the male portion mounted. Either way that is a nice piece of work.

This is pretty much what I had in mind, only difference is I will likely use leather strips I have leftover. The one I based it off of had snaps, but I think I'd prefer the straps just to keep it tighter.

I know the project is done, but an idea for future attempts on similar items. At first I was thinking pop rivets as already suggested. Another possibility is to use a shop press if you have one. People doing gun smithing especially on AK varieties frequently rivet them this way and there are several good jigs available to crush them perfectly every time. Also If the rivets will hold a rifle together it will easily hold a pouch.
