The crux is weight at very high RPMs isn't it? A hardy bucket built to withstand heat and abrasion ( hardened face ) comes at a cost. Very much more than Ti valve keepers.

Harley 750 engines have rocker arms and adjustments similar to Guzzis.
And of course the Milwaukee 8 has hydraulic lifters.

You may want to keep checking. It depends on the sportbikes in question n

For instance, the Honda CBR500 I'm working on now uses rockers that slide out of the way when the rocker shafts are removed. I'm pretty sure the CBR300 and 250 used that too but I'd have to check. But I know I've come across that on other models too.

And iirc the Vrod was shim and bucket and the camshafts came out.

But yeah, I'll generally take Harley's methods (esp hydraulic lifters).

I had a 1982 Kawsaki KZ750E four banger with shim under buckets. Yes the cams had to be removed to replace the shim but the first time that was necessary was at about 60K miles when two needed to be swapped out. I only had to replace shims two times (IIRC) after putting about 110K miles on the motor. The Suzuki GS fours like the 650 had shim over bucket and those were easier to replace... use a shim tool to press the bucket down, pull the shim out with a magnet and pop the new one in. Those also rarely needed replacement in a well maintained motor.

I know the Guizzi bobber is a current model, but it is still one of the few bikes in the world that I just get all sloppy mouth with drool when I see a good example. Personally the Grisso is my choice, but hey, that Bobber is SWEET.

Think of it this way, Sportster fans are unconventional to begin with and for many, years ago there were primarily Japanese bikes or euro and 1 American brand. Harley culture hated Japanese brands, however Euro's got a pass. Anything with a V or Opposed twin appealed. I always liked the odd ducks.

I like the look of that. I've always had a soft spot for the Guzzi's ever since I was a kid on a bicycle back in the late 70's and I saw a guy on a Guzzi with a café fairing parked at the ball park where my little league team was playing.

I've never ridden one though. May have to go find a dealer that gives demo rides.
