My wife says they are the only way she knows a bike is coming up on her on the freeways. In between lanes they fly by so fast, it's like they come out of nowhere, but loud pipes gives you some warning just before they fly past.

I was telling her about this thread, and she just laughed. She figures they saved a few guys that she would have run over.

Again, if they ever saved one life, then the answer to the question is yes they do save lives.

I know they hear it, because I use mine like a horn while lane splitting. I unleash the Kracken and they split apart like a wave of water under the front tire. An Air Horn off a big rig may work even better, but a wimpy bike horn is a useless accessory.

Well said.

I don't know if they have ever saved my life, but I know they have stopped many a cager from pulling in front of me. I, too, use my exhaust as a horn when I see someone contemplating a dumbass move.
