I'm confused by your questions. The hub and braked drum on the -52 front hub is painted black, the backing plate polished. The original finish on the -64 front brake hum was polished as was the backing plate (same for rear backing plate). The ribs between the spokes were polished as well (but not the grooves). I'm sure you know how to polish aluminum parts, but beyond that I'm not sure what you're looking for. The early cam covers, for instance, are a sand cast finish. Bead blasters I know have come up with a pretty good mix of media to closely replicate that finish. Rocker boxes were partially polished, partially sand cast. If you want to know the original finish of any pre-70 part, I can help you, but the questions you've posted thus far are a bit mysterious.

The low luster term is what I was looking for. I didnt think the term "polished" quite fit the bill. I was relating to the over shined up process often used on a Recondition, not so much a restoration. I wouldnt think the factory would waste much time on an all out polish.

In my book, Oakite 164 is the best and safer aluminium cleaner. Just soak it a day or two, rince it with warm water and clean clean clean.

Oakite?? Wow, havent heard that in awhile. My dad and grandfather worked for them in Jersey for many years until the plant closed down.I didnt think the company was still around. We had tons of Oakite products by the gross laying around back then.

The parts mentioned came polished from the factory. In the 60s, before they started clear coating anything, the luster faded fairly fast.

I think that's why you could find a tube of "Simichrome Polish" in every bike dealership, back then!
