I think it is a Screaming Eagle but , yes.
It's for an EVO and I cut the flanges off and tacked on Ironhead spigots.

Yeah that seat casting is weird for that year. I thought 72 was the last year for the casting and the dual sprung seat tubes. In which case you are lucky if you want springs under the seat. People who have them say they are very comfortable. But a buddy of mine says shocks and a sprung seat feels wonky. So it depends.

After seeing pics I can say, That is certainly a pre-VIN frame that someone stamped a VIN on.

No mistake, it is not a leftover 78 frame as a 78 frame would not have a 72 seat area forging.

I hope the original frame was destroyed.

My only issue with the pre-vin concept is that I have not seen one with oil cooler bosses on the neck. Of course, I dont claim to know anything. I realize that the majority of the frame is not a 79.

The issue is not what it is, but if there is another frame out there with the same VIN. The bike is not legally registered and if there are any questions will likely be impounded. DMV will deny any responsibility and claim the bike was fraudulently registered, if presented with the situation. DMV never makes any mistakes......

And the fact that a proper inspection will likely result in the frame being seized as it is a number job. Any inspector worth his salt will recognize the frame is not a 79.

A risk that is not worth taking, I can't have any LEO asking me to explain where every HD part in my garage came from. Not that there is anything nefarious going on in my garage, but I have no way of documenting 30 years of parts collecting.

I have had some bad experiences with numbers and vehicle titling so I have little tolerance for anything that is not completely legit.
There is a forum member who had a legally registered (for multiple years) Ironhead taken from him due to some title BS.
I don't deal with this type of situation well and it is in my best interest to avoid them at all cost.

My eyesight just isn't good enough to see the neck casting properly.

If it's a 79 casting it would indicate the 79 frame was cut up and PROBABLY destroyed.

There is always the chance that someone built a new frame and moved the title to the new frame. But I doubt that happened.

Here in Oz (so it's probably different to where you live) ann major changes to a frame have to be certified by a mechanical engineer. We don't allow "back yard" builders to do this unchecked.
