I corrected the speedo a while ago, but I thought that the ECM knew the precise fuel consumption by using injector size and time?

But it needs to be calibrated, mine was way off as delivered. I corrected the speedo VSS first and then dealt with trip center. In "Trip Center" you enter correction factors. It was showing I'd used ~ 2.5 gal when I was putting in 3.0. I ended up with a 1.18 "fuel used" correction factor so what it shows for "fuel used" matches what I put in. I'd reset the trip meter then run 3 or 4 tanks of gas recording how much I put in, 10+ gal with my 4.5 gal tank, and would then apply a correction and check again and correct again. It took a while. Now it's dead on, it was worth doing.

It's handy runnin' down the road, being able to watch "trip econ (mpg)" and have a good idea how far I can stretch fuel stops.

Just a comment on speedo/mileage accuray.
With the original speedo setting from H-D on my 2017 48’ the top speed was 132mph. After GPS correction it is 121mph.
The actual mileage was just as wrong, so comparing apples with apples is not straight forward.

According to the radar speed signs all over town and the interstate construction zone, my speedo is accurate. My iPhone and odometer sync so they may both be off. So with that said I’m getting 55 mpg.

Default Mpg

I have a Honda Insight hybrid for my daily driver. 46.7 mpg over 18,000 miles. I have got 62, which is better than my Sportster will get. If I behave myself or do a road trip I’ll get 55 give or take. If I’m around town lighting up big twins I’ve been known to get high 40’s...and it is always worth it.
