Question Front brake hoses

I am looking for the upper and one lower brake hoses for my '79. The originals are rubber, I found stainless braided Russel hoses on J&P but the last line on the specs says"for off-road or show only". The hoses are like $24 ea. Would I be better off converting over to hoses with banjo fittings? $$$$$

Russel and Goodrich hoses are fine, they actually perform better than the rubber hoses.

Don't worry about the disclaimer. They are simply protecting themselves from government bureaucracy. To legally sell them for road use they would have to give some government agency a king's ransom to get them approved which adds to the price you pay. So, they offer with the disclaimer that you promise not to use them on the road, nudge, nudge, wink, wink. Don't worry, they are good, use them myself.

Another alternative is to visit a hydraulic hose shop near you. They can make any length with any type fitting you need. I've never had a problem with after market hoses, but I like the looks of the thinner lines that the hose shops can make.

I have several Russell's brake hoses and they come with a plastic sleeve with "DOT" on it. I suppose that is for any inspection station doing a state safety inspection.

Russel and Goodrich are very good. Ignore the disclaimer. Stupid government, lawyers, complainers, etc.

Does anyone have experience with the system of stainless braided hose with #3 swivel flare ends, then small adapters at the master cylinder and brake caliper? I'm not keen on extra fittings, but using that system would solve a problem for me.

Do not use raw stainless braided hoses, the hoses you want have a sleeve over the braid so it doesn't act like a hacksaw against anything it rubs on.

The Russel and Goodrich hoses we are talking about are #3 AN flare.
