Default Heel Toe Shifter?

A couple of bikes back, I got real used to a heel/toe shifter. Been staring at the setup on the late model Sporty, and it seems like one could be fabbed/adapted with a little diligence.

So...anyone done it, and if so, d'ya have pix?

thanks,

Chuck.

They don't exist. I've been looking for years. A few here have made setups and I acknowledge their creativity but I'm looking for a real set up.

They aren't pretty at all..but I split 2 triumph 500 motor plates and welded them to a 'Daniel Boone' forward. First attempt at this, it works....

Frank,
That's a sharp looking setup. Did you fab that system or just how did it come into being?

It is quite easy to make a set. You need a second shift peg and arm, some creativity, and perhaps a welder.

Sure they do. There is a -65 OEM heel toe shifter, and earlier model as well, with a slightly different profile. I have one of the -65 models. Would like to get one of the earlier style.

My 66 came with a heel/toe shifter. I used to think that they were goofy, but I've been using it for the last 30 years and it works just fine and I'm used to it. The only problem I have with it is when the kicker kicks back violently on occasion during start-up, and the toe end of my shoe/boot is thrown into the "heel" part of the shifter. Last time this happened I broke off part of the rubber on the heel end. It was the last OEM shifter rubber I had.

I'm now stuck with using the aftermarket crap.

Well...

I've never ridden a bike with forward controls, so that option is pretty much out - besides, the front pipe routing on a Sporty would make for a pretty hot foot, methinks.

The '66 heel/toe is interesting - I'll have to go looking for that. Sadly - I've a late model Ironhead, which means the shifter is DOT compliant (left side).

This leaves me with Mick's suggestion - a fabricated heel/toe. I knew I shouldn't have given that welder away.

I just rotated the original shifter 180* and added a peg and some brake line compression washers Bill.
I made a few changes since that pic was taken..like I now fitted a 5/16 stainless rod,I die some threads(NF24)on it..starting the die perfectly straight is the hard part...so I put the T bar with die in a drill press and started it that way(by hand) turned out perfect..using a small machinist vice to hold the rod and a C clamp to hold the vice.
