Default changing from stock gas tank

got a new gas tank for my 1995 1200 sportster, the old tank had the small vapor tube that attached to the frame tube stand pipe between the battery tray and the oil tank. the new tank has a small fitting i assume for the same vapor line, if i use a vented gas cap can i eliminate the vapor tube.

I think the tube is more for overflow than venting. I could be wrong. I put a 96 tank on my 03 and both have that feeling/tube. But think you'll be fine with just a vented cap. Just be aware of how much you fill the tank.

That fitting under the tank vents it into a canister for emissions. You can get you a vented cap at lowbrow customs if needed and not use that fitting.

Here's the Sportsterpedia section regarding the Tank Vent Tube:
http://sportsterpedia.com/doku.php/t...e_tank_venting

I'm quite sure that all the tanks from 1992-2003 use a vented fuel cap. It's likely that 2004-2006 also use one.

So, the original design (for those years) has BOTH the vented fuel cap & the tank vent tube.

I expect the cap only lets AIR IN (probably) while the tank vent tube, connected to the vapor valve, ONLY LETS AIR OUT.
