Default Easy start cam choice

Hopefully someone here has used an Andrews x grind cam need to know how well they kick. Motor is 45/8 stroke 10:1 piston head work big valves Lolly pops in drag pipes 1974. I haves some X grind on the shelf and some sifton 510 M which I believe is a short duration cam I have used them but only with electric start they use up about 1 starter drive a year which is cheaper than a knee. Sifton Titans or minus minus kick easy in 41/2 Strock 900 which I also ride. I believe that motor is closer to 9:1. I looked at the timing between the 2 cam profiles Sifton minus minus and Andrews x grind it seemed like they were close on the exhaust cam opening and closing. Truthfully I have very little idea what degrees and duration really mean As far as easy start and performance. P cams perform surprisingly well and possibly better than any of these 3 profiles but tend to be a little hard to kick a xlch with higher compression.

Lowest CCP for least effort starting: latest intake valve closing point ABDC.

The P cams are great for the Sportster (if you have a full set) I ran PBs in my 77" for a while and from a performance standpoint they gave up nothing. The Minus-Minus were there for starting and at that they were great. Plenty of overlap. With today's ersatz gasoline, I'd probably steer away from 10/1 compression ratio. At this point how much is enough? The Suzukis are going to beat you regardless.

Minus-Minus were there for starting
Minus-Minus were there for power
Plenty of overlap
Has nothing to do with CCP

My bike has Titans and I was going to say they don't do much for starting. To me the kicker feels like it has just as much compression as when it had PB's in it. Poor electric starter can't catch a break either.

the late closing intake valves on the minus-minus does have an effect on cold cranking pressure.i have a full set of these with a kick start magneto ignition.73 cu.in. if you didn't notice that in my signature.

I don't disagree with you. To me it is not noticeable.

the larger the motor the more noticable it would be.11B40 had a '77 cu.in.motor.kick start magneto also.
