I want the 4.5 gallon tank. Interesting that no 2020 sportster has the 4.5 gallon tank.

Does seem a bit odd for sure, i wonder if it's an attempt to push U.S. riders into trying the new models?
On tank size, it's another mystery to me that a country so vast gets little peanut tanks only holding enough to get from 1 filling station to another.
Probably the reason they fitted useless seats and suspension, as no need to fit good stuff because the rider has to stop so often for fuel anyway.

You nailed it here. We all range from a bit crazy to absolutely demented.

I am painting up a peanut (3.3) to replace the 4.5 on my 05 Custom.

We are all about "looks" over here (probably why we have so many blonde's).

Personally, it's all about the ride and stopping for gas is where I meet some of the most interesting people along the way.

I don't care much about seat comfort either. At my age it's not the gas I am stopping for but I may as well fill up.

By the way, and on a separate point. The reason (to my eye) that I think the big tank looks like crap is because it is mounted too low on the frame and it looses the sportsters aggressive look. It makes the bike look like anything else from Japan. If I wanted to keep the 4.5, I would raise the front of the tank to the height of the 3.3 tank. (If you do this, make sure there is bar clearance). It's also too long, but that means that the seat is shorter to go with the long tank and I find that putting a 3.3 tank on with a short seat leaves some backbone showing. That to me is also part of the aggressive look. I put a Custom seat on my Roadster for that reason. So once I switch to the 3.3 tank both bikes will be similar in look and feel. Like Indian Larry used to say "I like to know I can get out of trouble faster than I got into it."

Now from the MoCo's point of view. Smaller tanks will help with the myth that sportster's are not intended for longer rides. That will help them sell more couches and recliners.

Damn, I just looked at a picture of the bike (I'm at work), and now I have talked myself into raising the front of that tank to see if I really want to swap it. (I hate the paint on it though).

I raised my 4.5 and like the look of the 4.5. Personally, I don't care for the look of the smaller tanks.
