I tell you what.
IF HD could make a damn motorcycle that they didn't have to recall tires, nuts and bolts, saddlebag nuts, wrong set timing from the factory, had better quality control, and could stop repeating costly factory and design faults and malfunctions, then they might make more and have more satisfied customers who would stop suing the %$^& out of them every time they put out a new motorcycle.

That's like most companies, tho. We just notice it more, cause we ride them Harleys. Look at Honda,VW, and Ford, there stock keeps moving forward and they've had some disasters. Buying stock in a company takes faith in the brand, if you're after just the money, it's better to invest in markets. I think HD will weather the "storm". After all, they survived 2 world wars and a depression and a few recessions. After thought... Will GM start making a Pontiac Ventilator?

Just Indian, mostly. Excelsior-Henderson didn't survive the depression. Then came the Brits and finally the Japanese, who took a bigger bite out of the Brits than the Americans.

I know if Ford still only made the Model T today with a new paint scheme and some adapted EFI, i would look elsewhere.

My comments may sound cynical. I love Sportsters and don't ride anything else now.
But I've been categorizing service bulletins in the Sportsterpedia.
And it's real hard to read thru bulletin after bulletin of recalls without getting upset at the repetitiveness.

#553, 2-24-1967, the first recall (001) was on a 1967 XLCH on the addition of a spark plug cable guide to keep the wire from interfering with the carb throttle lever.

#651, 6-27-1973, A certain number of 1973 Models XL, XLCH and FX motorcycles were assembled with defective lower fork brackets.

#M-787, 6-3-1980, There is a possibility that the length of the adjusting screw may not provide sufficient thread engagement within the ignition switch/fork lock assembly
when installed per specs.

#M-1021, 1-21-1992, It's possible the ”+“ battery cable could chafe due to proximity to oil tank.

#M-1119, 1-10-2002, The clips retaining the front fender tip lamp jumper harness can become detached on certain 2001 and 2002 FLT model motorcycles.

#M-1202, 2-9-2007, Models that specify a 100/90-19 front tire may have been assembled with a 90190-19 front tire.

You just start seeing a pattern when all these are laid out in front of you.
I've read recalls are perpetual. But do they really have to be?

And to what extent does that dip into sales?
And to what extent does them shipping the wrong tire from the factory on a motorcycle pinch into our pockets?

There is a lot more to story than sales tariffs I believe....
