got an old vega 5 string that needs some TLC. on the back burner for now.
actually just finished this guitar.
die board deck and front
aluminum back panel and end plates
extruded aluminum legs
hot humbucker pickup
grover mini machines
six string E9 with 3 floor and 2 knee
six string is the latest niche

my father built guitars that sold all over the world. he had to stop building due to macular degeneration at 97 years old. he had a ton of inventory at his place so i moved it to my place. i built with him off/on when not offshore, mostly machine work. due to family idiots, he moved to a assisted living facility at 3200 dollars a month, i wanted him to stay at his house, i even offered to have him move in but you know greedy siblings. i build to recoup his invested value in his parts.
i wish i could play one too, although i know the concept, just all the 9,7, & 13th's tunings. if i would play, it would be "E" since it is like the guitar neck, just using a sound bar.
i know you could build one to, it is all mathematics. i use the 24" scale.
the ole vega banjo plays, just all the skin clamps and trim rings are rusted. i could buy some chrome repops or powder the ones on it. one day, one day, maybe.

That old Vega just needs somebody to play it. Unless it's so rusted you can tighten the nuts....don't worry about it. If it can be tuned to Open G, you can be playing a simple tune on that beauty in a few hours.
How a banjo plays has nothing to do with how it looks

too true too true
all cosmetic
i do not like the looks of a roady instrument, some pay extra money for that look, guess they want to give the impression they played the heck out of it. if i get time, will post a jpeg.

How does one keep a Double Bass in tune?

Break it up and make a Xylophone out of it.
