Default Need help putting a new oem wire harness into my 2003 sportster

I recently bought a 2003 1200 Sportster with a bad wire harness and I took it out and bought another one and I have no idea how to put it back in. I've seen pictures of wire diagrams but not actual pictures. Maybe you guys could help! Thank you!

So, you don't want a color-coded schematic but you want photos of harness connections under the tank, under the seat, etc?

Have you already pulled the main harness?

Are all the sub hardnesses going to the left controls, right controls, tail light, etc still in place?

Welcome to the forum! I rewired the rear of my 2003 883 many years ago to accommodate the elimination of my taillight. Maybe I could offer a few tips

The diagram you linked, I have seen before and that does not help me at all. I would prefer pictures of the wiring on the bike. The bike when I bought it had a cut wiring harness and right now the bike is stripped or a bobber build. The electronics I plan on having are headlight brake light coil start and maybe turn signals

I'd recommend starting the harness at the starter and working your way up the downtube and then up the backbone.

the rear engine mount is also the spot where the rear harness makes its ground. typically the top right bolt.

Good suggestion from Reddtigger.
Even though this is a large forum, the chances of finding a member with a late model pre 04 sufficiently apart to photo the harness may not be likely.

Sounds like you have your work cut out for you. I'm assuming the necessary elements are still there such as connectors for the coil, ignition module, handlebar controls, etc, . Start connecting them and get the bike running. Let the harness stay loose. Then move to the lights etc. You will have to use that diagram that is presented already. Print it off in 11x17 and start marking it as you move along. If the connectors were cut, you will need to be very resourceful. I spent a lot of time in my younger years in electronics and such, so it doesn't seem too hard. Just a little time consuming and head scratching. Also, a factory manual may help you situation. Mine has an electrical manual that is almost as thick as the mechanical manual. But it's got a lot more computer crap going on being EFI

Mine is a 98 S model so there will be some differences in the two.
If you can post specific areas you need, maybe someone has a pic of that area.
But there are electronic features that have to be wired in.
That is where the wiring diagram is needed.
If you can't follow the diagram, I'm sure someone can help you decipher it.

If you are looking for a general layout because the original got pulled completely out. Find one in your area and take pics of it. Check out one for sale close buy and go check it out. You fail to mention if the pigtails on the devices you are connecting to are still intact. Unused wires and connectors will either have to be removed or clipped or tucked back.
