Default Upside Down Monoshock IH - A Longterm Project

Been itching for a new project for a while. Came up with the idea of taking what I did to my 76 a little further this time - an IH with upside down forks and monoshock suspension.
Very early days but thought I'd start a build thread now though right at the outset just for fun. Here's the story so far.

Last winter I picked up a messy old GSXR400 Suzuki

Pulled it apart and sold most of it off, leaving me with this for very little outlay:

The wheels won't stay that colour! Sold off the monoshock as well as no way will that fit in an IH.

Recently bought another IH - a 75 engine and 74 rolling chassis hybrid. Bought it from my Indie, after pestering him for a long time Engine just rebuilt throughout, new Andrews transmission The rest is a bit of a mess but mostly there:

Got it home today, now the planning and money saving starts in earnest. Hope to get forks on, and frame/swingarm/monoshock work done over the winter. In the process of working out what I want and who can do it for me. Will be selling off the IH front end, wheels and assorted parts. Just wanted an IH with a good engine, frame, swingarm, title etc.

Have got a 1 inch neck stem conversion for the 74 frame as that will be close to what was on the Suzuki. A local bike racing engineering/fabrication place will make the 2 fit together for me. After that will come the frame work. Rough plan is, like with my 76, keep the IH swingarm pivot and use that as the base for a new swingarm with monoshock mount.
Watch this space, but don't hold your breath - the 76 took 3 years and reckon this will be the same.
Paul

Good luck with the project Paul, an interesting way to go, i look forward to your progress.

I Mono shocked a Norton Commando in 1994 which turned out to be a great bike, so it was two fingers up to the naysayers who said it couldn't be done.

Cheers

The Busch bros ( check out Busch&Busch blogspot for pics) put an aluminum mono shock yz 490 swing arm on an IH was almost a direct bolt on. They didn't use the mono shock on it though. Any pics of your mono shock bike?

Sounds worth me checking that out. Didn't take many pics of the monoshock Suzuki as I just wanted the forks, wheels and brakes from it. It was pretty ugly:

Couldn't use the monoshock from it as the bottom linkage took up too much space. Will use one that bolts straight to the swingarm, with frame mount somewhere around where the IH circuit breakers usually go.
Hopefully it will end up looking better than the Suzuki did

Yep, finally a deal was struck for the IH, only took about a year, maybe more. Good things come to those who wait I guess.
