If the rear cyliinder pipe does not go forward around the cone it will be too short to do you any good (unless you like the rear cylinder misfires you will experience with a short header pipe)

The difference between this

is HUGE! the top one works, the bottom one works really good.
Better low end torque and off idle power.

Interesting. Is that because the front and rear headers need to each be the same length from where they leave the head to where they meet the silencer?

Some of the thoughts just pop into my head randomly, some occur whilst riding my other IH. Those ones tend to turn out best for some reason. Most appear whilst sitting, beer in hand, looking at the bike in the garage. Those ones, depending on how many beers, can be the ones that a lot of cutting, grinding and drilling proves to be not the best Sometimes a lot of hours spent on what turns out to be a bad idea ends up providing a good one.
All part of the fun, making progress slowly but surely.

I first heard that decades ago when reading about building exhaust headers for V-8 motors.

Return spring arrived today (it's a Honda one - no idea which model but it seemed to be the size I needed). Rear brake now finished and working. Thought I'd share a couple more photos of the set up for anybody interested in how I approached running a rear disc on a right foot shift IH. It's similar to what I did on my 76 but I like to think it's an improved version.
I cut out a piece of steel plate and had it welded to the crossover shaft. This operates the master cylinder when the brake pedal is pushed down. Master cylinder is mounted on a bracket from the 2 large rear frame holes. A thin bracket also runs from the master cylinder to the primary cover - probably not needed but belt and braces to ensure no flex.



As the plate that operates the master cylinder is welded to the crossover shaft that means the shaft needs to be run through the frame from the left. So I cut off the old brake rod bracket from the right end of the shaft. I cut this down a bit and adapted it for a return spring. Shaft was threaded so that this can be fitted after the shaft has been pushed through the frame. To make sure all the brake movement won't cause any rotation there is a pin as well as the thread in the end of the shaft.
Bottom of spring locates in a bracket mounted on the right side rear frame holes. A return spring is needed and mounting it on the right seemed a good option as that end of the shaft had nothing else to do without the drum brake to operate:



As I ended up running a 1/2 inch offset front sprocket there is plenty of room for the spring setup despite having an X ring chain there. It would be maybe uncomfortably close to the chain without the offset sprocket, not sure.
