I have very good compression so I know that it isn't hydrolocked.

So I haven't yet gotten it to start. I had a busy weekend this past weekend, but I took the carb off and looked for rust in the float bowl. There was a tiny bit of rust in there and I cleaned it out and sprayed all the jets and float bowl valve clean. The reason I think it was leaking gas was because my new float bowl gasket was ripped somehow! I'm guessing from vibration.

I had the old gasket that sealed just fine, but ripped it in a different location when I installed it. Since I had two gaskets ripped in separate locations, I just put both of them on hoping that would help seal it enough.

While I was working on the carb, I had the battery charging, but it didn't charge enough for me to try starting the bike (it was only ~45deg outside where I had the battery charging for less than an hour). I went for a ride on my '19 Sportster but I got carried away and didn't get back til dark. The battery is fully charged and sitting inside. I'm gonna give it a shot at starting this weekend (maybe tonight if I'm ambitious).

I think it wasn't starting at the gas station because the (new) spark plug cable became disconnected from the coil. This is a recurring problem and I'm not so sure how to fix it. I've tried squeezing the connector on the cable for a tighter connection, but that hasn't worked. Any ideas?

What's loose? The connector to the wire or the connector to the coil?

Use a small screwdriver to expand the connector on the wire so the connection to the coil is tighter. Make sure the boot is allowing the wire to seat firmly in the coil tower - slide the boot up the wire, away from the coil tower if necessary.

Ran the bike last night after I charged the battery up and with a few prime kicks, it started up right away! This bike is in as good of condition as the previous owner claimed it was. It rides really nice, it just needs a rear tire.

I noticed that neither the generator or the oil pressure light were on when I was riding. The oil pressure light comes on when I turn the key though.

I wasn't able to check the voltage on the battery when revving it to 2000 because I need an extra set of hands. I'll try when I have a buddy with me to hold the voltmeter.

It's easy enough to rig up an attachment & use crocodile clips, clip one to the positive terminal on the battery or starter motor lead, the other to a good earth, somewhere on the bike, hey presto, hands free, rev to your hearts content while looking at the meter.
