Default Newbie w/ Engine ID Question

Hello All: Great site! A friend has a '73 Sportster that I always thought was very cool, so when I came across a "project" bike that had a similar look, I decided to buy it. It may turn out to be a bunch of rolling parts, time will tell. In any event, it was sold as an '83 frame, with a '77 engine. Just below the cylinders, on the right hand side, the following is stamped in the casting: CCHD114237. There is a star stamped on both sides of this. On the left hand side, the base of each cylinder is stamped with what looks like a forward slash and small triangle, followed by an F on the front cylinder and an R on the rear cylinder. With this info, can anyone help me learn what I have? Note, I tried attaching pics, but was unsuccessful. Thanks, in advance!

1983 XLX 1000

The engine number is an abbreviation of the original frame number.
There should a letter in the casting also.
Model year:
B = 1981
C = 1982
D = 1983
E = 1984
F = 1985

Example:
CCHD114237
CC - XLX
H - 1000cc
D - model year
114237 - production #

Wow - thank you for both the incredibly quick reply and great news! I tried researching this prior to posting, but without success. What a tremendous resource this forum is. I will try to contribute in the future.

cousindenver, I’ve moved this to the Irοnhead section, where you’ve got the best chance of getting the help you’re looking for.

To post a photo, upload your photo to a photo hosting site. I'm using ImgBB.

Copy the 'IMG Code' in the photo hosting site (eg: 'BBCode full' in ImgBB), and paste that into your post. Don't use the 'Insert Image' button ().

You may find this helpful:
