FWIW, the HD accessory polished floating front disc I have, #41500108, is Sunstar.

Galfer HH sintered pads work on it very nicely.

A magnet isn't a reliable way to identify stainless steel. The list of magnetic stainless steel alloys is long. Galfer discs are 420 stainless steel which is magnetic.

Picture shows all the info stamped into the rotor, appears the rotor was made in Japan by Sunstar. I went to their website and could find nothing about the material they make their rotors out of.



Both the stock rotor and the polished rotor are magnetic. I wouldn't consider them mildly magnetic as some of the stainless alloys I have dealt with are, but they don't have the pull I think mild steel/cast iron, etc... would have.

I will try to remember to post up as far as the life/condition of the rotor in the future. Seems I read Lyndall guaranties the pads for 18,000 miles. Might be a while though, my son's wrecked Iron is currently sitting on the lift waiting on parts to get it back on the road. So my rotor swap will have to wait.

A little update: The stock rotor on my son's iron is also made by Sunstar.

Yes. Different alloys mixed together are endless.
But there are soft and hard stainless due to the alloy mix.
So the softer metals may be more better mated with organic pads.
There is a reason for HD's choice of pads more than just to sell some.
But, like everything else, you have to discover these things since they won't fess up.

That's kind of what I've always thought too. That's why when I switched to different brand rotors, I used the pads the rotor manufacturer recommended.
