Default xied or x14ied?

i was about to do a stage one on my 2010 xl1200 low.
im out of work for a while now, that aint happening.
while im out of work, im installing my mufflers, and saddle bags.
i might add a cheap air cleaner into the mix, but i have not bought that yet.
all the other parts i have already, thats why im putting them on.

im considering an xied or x14ied as a stop gap till i can afford a pv tuner.

any input as to what is better between those two?
all opinions welcome.
thx

I had the XIEDs on mine for about 80,000 miles. I put them on when the bike was new in '09, along with an Arlen Ness Big Sucker air cleaner & stock mufflers with home made, freer flowing baffles. It ran good, got 45 mpg, topped out at about 115 mph. But it had a randomly recurring high idle problem. Finally got tired of messing with it, took off the XIEDs & nothing changed except the high idle has not come back in the last 20,000 miles since I removed them. The plugs still read good, light tan, & there's no popping on deceleration. I'd try it with out them & if you don't get an overtly lean condition, don't spend the money until you can get a proper tuner.

That is true AND that is the point...the XIED uses a simple resistive voltage divider to alter the oxygen sensor voltage so the ECU thinks the bike is running leaner than it is and the ECU then richens the AF ratio a bit. A tuner is definitely a better solution but XIED's do work OK for Stage 1 (freer flowing AC and exhaust)

i just purchased a set of used xieds on here.
should be here in 3 or 4 days i assume.
if i like how they work, i will run them till i can get a tuner.
when i get a tuner, they will go on my sisters stock sporty.

they showed up, looked like new.
i installed them, was quick and easy.
i removed the battery for a couple days.
installed the xieds, and installed a new battery.
runs well after the install. no check engine light.
no decel popping, runs smooth after the mufflers and ac install.
so far, so good.

i wish i could find more info about them such as af tables and dyno results.
