Default 2001 xlc starting issues

Howdy,
I’ve done multiple searches on this topic but have come up empty.

2001 xl custom won’t start, no click, no nothing.
Used a test light to check wires at the starter relay plug. Power from the battery to the green wire turns the starter motor, that works. The red with black trace wire gets hot with the key switch on. The black with red trace gets hot when the starter button is pushed. The solid black wire lights the test light very dim with the key switch on. I’m not convinced this is right. Should it be a ground?
Also, replacing the starter relay changed nothing.
Any thoughts?

Here's the Sportsterpedia section on the Battery cables, voltages and grounds:
Sportsterpedia - Check Your Battery Cables

Report here the readings taken from the battery tests...

And here's the section on the Starter Solenoid:
Sportsterpedia - Starter & Solenoid Function

Be accurate, be methodical, be thorough!

Have you checked your battery cables? Both Ends?

Especially check the grounding end on the rear motor mount bolt - And check the harness grounds on the other rear motor mount bolt!

Remove all the fuses & disconnect the starter relay - Try the keyswitch again - Does the Red/Black wire still get hot?

If not, then turn the keyswitch off, insert one fuse, turn the keyswitch on - Does the Red/Black wire get hot?
If not, then turn the keyswitch off, insert another one fuse, turn the keyswitch on - Does the Red/Black wire get hot?
Repeat until you've checked all the individual fuses - Then try the starter relay - Does the Red/Black wire get hot with only the relay connected?

This should narrow down the source of the load...

Aha!
Buried under the battery box, where the ground mounts to the engine mount was a mouse nest, with chewed wire.
Thanks again for sharing those links and your suggestions.
Cheers!
