glad to see the thread rebooted

I have thought about this a bit, I am 60 and have had a sporty of some sort all my adult life, I have had a lot of other bikes along with those sportsters, crotch rockets were a love of mine for 20 years, but kept a sporty because I just love the platform. It is light, nimble, and (with a few mods) has the HP you can need and can use, and it is an American made bike.

SO I go back to the original post here and reviewed it, as I would be this guy is bummed he no longer can ride a Sportster because it hurts because of the suspension.

I think maybe you should look for a 3 wheeler, I think the answer is the extra cush they have, Can am, HArley, Gold Wing, to me it does not matter it is the fact that you can still ride.

A few years back I was fueling up when a late 70s guy walked up to me, I was on a R1, he loved the bike and pointed out his 3 wheel can am that his wife was sitting on, he explianed that she could no longer ride on his Gold Wing because it was just to hard on her back, so he bought the Canam. I was amazed because I know a GW is the best touring machine on the market, so I talked to him a while and he said the Canam had a very compliant suspension. Now the rest of the story, this was off the 10 freeway in Palm Springs, they were from Phoenix and were headed to Seattle to visit grandkids!!!!!!! I only hope that at that age ME AND MY WIFE will still want to do a trip on a motorcycle that encompasses that kind of mileage and time.

Good luck in finding a ride that you can still ride, My prayers are that you can ride till the day you finally take that trip into the heavens.

I know where you are comin' from, blksporty, I'm 62, and Life has dealt me a number of injuries over time that has had the Doctors telling me I won't be able to ride. I've made adjustments to both the way I ride and to my bike to keep me riding. The latest was a shattered elbow that left me without full extension of my left arm. I went with taller handlebars with a little more pullback. That changed my riding position to more upright and now my bad hip even feels better. I've had so many different types of motorcycles and I'm the most comfortable with a Sportster. I think it's not only how a bike feels, but how a bike MAKES you feel. If you choose to go trike or CanAm or a softtail, just make sure you get several test rides in on them. Me, I'm sticking with my Sporty. Good Luck

I triked one of my Sporty's a couple of years ago, It looks good with my custom model A style box on the back, but the ride is pretty bad. You manage to hit every bump in the road and it feels more like an ATV then a bike.

My dad is 79 and still rides.
His main bike is a 91 Softail, followed by his 05 Sporty 883-C, then he has an 89 1250 Sporty trike for when his legs bother him.
He loves his 05 sporty just can't ride it very long anymore, maybe 100 miles a day. He does a lot of legion rides all over the state, so he rides the Softail a lot more says it absorbs the bumps better, it does have an adjustable shock set up and lowering I installed for him when he got it so it's real soft for long rides. You just can't ride hard with the set up as is.
