Default Stock (?) 1974 cobra style seat won't fit.

My bike had no seat when I bought it, so I bought what was supposed to be an original stock cobra style seat. I don't know how the seat is supposed to fit exactly.

The side brackets line up with the bolts right behind the shocks.
Problem is, the space between brackets is too wide or too narrow to fit in any obvious spot. Too narrow to fit the width of the frame, too wide to fit the fender, and so on. The closest would be between the frame and the chrome fender bracket, but they are about an inch too narrow for that and that also doesn't look like quite the right spot anyway.

Where do they go, or do I have the wrong seat? And I'm pretty sure the front mount is attached right, with that little clip on the bolt just behind the tank.

There no side brackets on an OEM Cobra seat, it just clips on the front and has one center bolt through the top of the fender...

Photos?

Sounds like you got an Ebay/Amazon universal seat. Not made to fit anything HD. Think outside of the box. Take a few photos and post them here of the seat and the front seat mount on the frame. If we see what ya got, maybe be more help for ya.

It was this. I don't remember that sentence about "for choppers and trikes" when I bought it a few months ago. I probably wouldn't have bought it because my bike is stock. https://www.bmikarts.com/Selle-Giuli...ck_p_5188.html

Could you take the cover and foam off, grind the brackets off and re weld them where they would fit your mounts?

I'll probably do something like that. It looks like the seat is shaped right to look pretty good once I get it on there.

That's what I thought it was. EASY FIX. Cut off the useless middle bracket and clean it up. Front mount should work OK. Place seat on the bike and mark the rear mounting hole from under the fender. Then ya need to drill n tap the hole for a 1/4-20 bolt. Add a short 1/4-20 bolt and lock washer.

You are always better off with stock Harley Davidson parts for proper fit.
