do you want free hosting? Would that make it all better?

I suspect that this is not the path to endearing oneself to the management or membership...but that's just me.

I'm trying to decipher what you are saying here, but it appears that you are taking the owner to task for not opting for SSL server encryption...and using that as the basis for your derision.
SSL in phpBB-like applications is pretty much useless as it only encrypts active traffic which, in practice, is not sensitive information.
E-commerce site? Have at it. Drop what is closer to $150/yr to secure sensitive information and make your users feel warm and fuzzy.
Forum traffic? If a malicious actor wishes to misuse my advice on braking technique, they are most welcome to do so.
Meh.

I quite happily spent $20 (again): not secure site be damned. The good people on here and their willingness to share their knowledge is awesome! Now, where is that thread on braking technique?

I went to pay for a one year membership and on the PayPal check out page, there was a box to click that "I authorize automatic PayPal payments to the media company"
I don't want to authorize any automatic payments or renewals. Is there a one time option?

No, you can set it up anytime you want. I had it set up for autopay to XLF but for some reason it doesn't work to Bert's account, so I had to manually transfer it.

All you have to do is cancel the recurring payment in PayPal. You membership will remain good for the year.

I could switch it over to SSL but see no need to. There is no PII collected here. The PayPal subscription is SSL so no payment info is sent in the clear.
In over 15 years not one account has been hacked.

After finding Sportsterpedia, $20/year is the least I could do to keep this place alive. Thanks for all you do.
