We'll do that. We have had hundreds of failed ideas...most of them do not get as far as the all metal floorboards, in retrospect we should have realized they would not have good traction while wet.

Most get shot down before we even do a working prototype.

A few things that come to mind right off are:

We made over 100 variations of the TTI's that did not work as well as we wanted before finally getting the results we wanted with the current design.

We also tested some variations of an "internal velocity stack" that could be used with most any air cleaner.

It certainly seems like it would work, but all our dyno tests and butt dyno testing, yielded no improvement. All those prototype got tossed.

Oil Filter Relocation for Two Wheel Touring Models and Harley Trikes

What’s in the kit and how’s it made?

Here’s our Oil Filter Relo Kit for 2 Wheel Touring Models and Trikes-

The filter mount and filter adapter are made from cast aluminum with brass fittings. We use the brass fittings because these give the best seal.

The magic in our kit are the Patent Pending brackets. There were many different prototypes and designs before finding the perfect design to withstand the wind and vibrations and allowing the oil filter to be tucked in and close to the frame so that there are no issues with scraping and road debris, all while having a Lifetime Warranty.

The brackets are made from American Cold Rolled Steel.

These small pieces of metal are used as a gusset, welded onto our brackets for added strength.

Gusset welded in place. This bracket mounts to the frame.

This bracket is what the oil filter mounts to.

The brackets are now ready for powder coating.

The hose that is supplied with our kit is very high quality; the same as Harley or Jagg hoses.

We include stainless steel hardware in our kits along with acorn nuts for a more finished look. Also, we include, not readily available, black hose clamps.

Why did we build The Clean-n-Cool Remote Oil Filter Set-up?

Two Reasons:

1. We have tried dozens of ways to remove the oil filter without making a mess. Some work better than others, but none work well.

2. Twin Cams run too hot for their own good. A cooler engine runs stronger and lasts longer.

For full details on testing and results, see post above.

Breather System Flow Testing, Results, & Video

When we embarked on designing our 4 Stage Catch-Can for External Breather Systems (EBS), we decided that the first order of business was to get accurate data on How Much Air passed through the stock Harley Breather Bolts, so we could design the best possible Catch-Can.

We wanted to know how much was passed at idle, under a load, at cruising speeds and on throttle let-off.

We also wanted to know the differences between a variety of HD engines, along with engines that had been hopped up with cams and or higher compression pistons/heads.

See the Full Testing Report HERE, including the chart and testing video below!

Post # 17... I believe that Harley is trying to make things better. They're subject to the same pitfalls as all other manufacturing businesses. They have to make something people want, it has to be affordable, reliable, and desirable. This can be hard to do when profit/costs factors in because you have to get the best parts, designs and marketing thru the lowest bidders. Balancing price and quality isn't easy. The market analyzers look at what age/income groups to market to by who's actually buying. Then, I think, they price accordingly. Then there's NHSA safety guidelines and EPA guidelines, etc.
The aluminum shifter would be my choice because it's lighter, less wear and tear on the shift forks. The electronics is a question for me. They can be very reliable but they fail from age. The improvements are made by electronic wizards who seem to tweak and change things from one year to the next. 15 years from now, when you need a new icm or tssm for your 2017, you'll have to settle for an aftermarket item that, who knows who, programmed it to work.
I feel the New Harleys are better simply because they've worked out most of the "bugs" over the years. No leaks, cleaner burning, better handling, better stability at and higher speeds, better warranties, etc., etc. As a company they've also realized that "simplicity" sells, too. 45degree V Twin, 62 years of Sportsters, a return to the base Electraglide, Trikes instead of sidecars, city bikes (500 & 750), and an entry into the electric m/c.
You have to realize, this is a large scale Motorcycle Company, one and only. No Snowmobiles, side by sides, ATV's, Boats, Musical Instruments or weird little cars. I think that says the most about them. Motorcycles for the Motorcyclists!
