Default Cams, what are the specs?

I have a stock 2004 883c and am converting it to a 1200.

Question: From the factory, do both the 883 and the 1200 use the same cams?

Are they W's or are they D's?

Does anyone have the specs?

I have found conflicting numbers and specs.

2004 883 cams are D grind (part 25193-00B). These were used on 883s and 1200s 2000-2003 as well.
2004 1200 cams are W grind (part 25194-00B).
Stayed this way 2004, 2005, 2006.
From 2007 the same W grind cams are used in both 883s and 1200s.

883 heads have shallower chambers than 1200s and therefore longer valves to match. So, when stock, 883 heads cannot accommodate as much overlap in the cams as 1200 heads. "TDC lift" spec of the cam grind is the number you'll need to be mindful of.

Edit...
More info on retrofitting W cams in 2004 883s on Hammer Performance site: http://www.hammerperf.com/883conversions.shtml
Scroll down to FAQ and you'll find the info you are looking for.

IXL2Relax and Hippysmack do awesome work compiling and editing on Sportsterpedia! It has become an excellent go-to resource that saves on search function time.

Just note the line "Although cam specs are the same, fitting variations introduce compatibility issues". Below is a summary (from Hammer Perf) of some of the fitting variations that can be encountered.

Quote:
These stock W grind cams be retrofitted to 1991-2006 models, and a used set can often be found cheap on Ebay or the like. Just be careful to get a compatible set. 1991-2003 models need a set that's machined for the timing cup as shown on the left in this picture - nearly as we can tell they stopped machining them for the timing cup sometime during the 2006 model year, but always verify. Also pay attention to the pinion gear tooth pitch. To put 00+ cams into a 91-99 or vice-versa, you can either swap your pinion gear or move your old #2 cam drive gear to your new cams with a press.
