Default KT - 2018 - Hop-along Highway

This will be my thread for the various rides I make in 2018 - Most of them will be to no place in particular... I will continue to upload my extended ride reports to My Motorcycle Chronicles website: >>HERE<<

Back before it was 'Too Outrageous' for young kids to act out their favorite cowboy characters, with guns included, I watched reruns of Hop-along Cassidy growing up in the 1950's - He was a clean-cut, well-spoken, helpful cowboy - He had some funny sidekicks that were always getting into various troubles...

'Hoppy', as he was affectionately called, had a soft heart but a strong sense of fair play that caused him to regularly intervene to prevent bad men from hurting good people... Although he often wore an all black outfit, including his hat... His drink of choice was sarsaparilla (a root-beer-like brew)...

Commercially (according to Wikipedia), Hop-along Cassidy was the first televison cowboy series and very successful. He was the very first character to be featured on a lunch-box which increased lunch-box sales by 1200 percent! "The success of the show and tie-ins inspired juvenile television westerns such as The Range Rider, Tales of the Texas Rangers, Annie Oakley, The Gene Autry Show, and The Roy Rogers Show."

I grew up watching and enjoying a range of cowboy TV shows and movies. That roaming spirit is captured to a small extent in riding the back country roads to no place in particular, just embracing life as you find it without disturbing it or making it into something else...

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

This is January 1 - I am not riding today (unlike last year) - The temperature is 18° and sunny - but the roadways are covered with anti-freeze chemicals and salt/gravel for traction... Once that is put on the roadways, I don't ride again until there is enough rain to wash that stuff off the road and the temperature rises above 40° when I can ride by using my heated glove liners for at least an hour in the wind...

HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone... Maybe I'll get to share some riding with you this year...

I pushed the bike out on the driveway & took this picture.
Then I pushed it back into the garage... BRRRrrrrrr!!

Happy NewbYear my friend, keep it safe, I’ll be over that way soon enough.

The Nakedness of Winter

My ardent colors have fallen away
And the sun I am keeping at bay
Lest the rays of a sun bright day
Should uncover my naked display

I finally got a ride - before the end of January. It rained in this area about 5-7 days ago - a decent amount - It washed the roadways...

Today was overcast but in the mid-50's. I got started about 2pm and rode for about 2 hours...

After about 40-minutes of riding, I stopped to put on my heated glove liners. Toasty warm within about 20-minutes, I locked the throttle and disconnected the power to the gloves. I was nearing Gettysburg and would be riding slower now...

If you'd like to read the rest of the story about my ride - click on the link in my signature below...

Ride Safe...

Here's one of the reasons I haven't posted another ride report...

It's been very cold this winter...

No kidding. I usually get at least a ten minute blast around the block every week or so but not this year.

Hopefully it won't be long now. I like trips nowhere in particular. Wish I had time for more.

I finally got out for a ride in February - The temps were in the mid-70's - yep, that's right!! And today should be similar temps... Woo Hoo ! !

I rode for about 60 miles - but only stopped for one picture of this church in New Oxford, PA...

I actually got to ride two days in a row in February - This second day was a record high temp of 81° with bright skies - A very nice Spring day in the middle of Winter - but rain was expected by late afternoon - So I headed out early to exercise KT...

I rode for about 160 miles making a few stops.

One of the places I stopped was at Boiling Springs - It's a favorite and convenient spot to stretch my legs - And there were quite a few others out enjoying the unusually warm weather - just a teaser for Springtime...

Most of the day I was simply riding - enjoying the wind and the sun - taking in the sites of the countryside...

I specifically rode on my favorite route - Route 233 from the junction of Rt174 to the junction with Rt30 - There's not a lot of places to pull off and take a picture of the greatness of this road, but I did find this little driveway that allowed me to park and take this shot of some of the wonderful twists & turns that this particular road has to offer...

This is THE BEST 20 mile ride in the south central PA area - many other places are great to ride, but I keep coming here multiple times a year to enjoy this stretch of highway...

If you want to see the other places I stopped - click on the link in my signature below...

Ride Safe...

WOW! It was nice enough today to get another short ride (62°) on the last day of February!

I stopped at these places today but the pics are from another time - Pics of the Harrisburg Int'l Airport & of the TMI cooling towers...

That's some pretty country up there. A flat bottom boat, plenty of bait and all day long.
I gotta start getting out more.
