I've welded numerous sparkplug holes, the main reason of those bad stripped holes was lubricant. Once, the hole was eaten like an EDM has done it. The plating of the plug is chosen to act as a dry anti-seize. Anti-seize can act as a conductor, a bit too much and here go the coil.

Finger tight then the socket.

Yes they are. Champion (and others) are also. Multi-layer plating apparently. On the other side the FSM says to use anti-seize. Pick your poison I guess. I choose to use anti-seize. Maybe it's an "old habits" thing.

I think the vast majority of spark plug holes I heli-coiled on customer bikes had the threads came out with the plug. Galled threads, or they'd been cross threaded.
